Sony PSP ((GO)) Pictures Leaked
SONY officially confirms PSP Go:
Sony has officially confirmed the existence of the latest version of the PlayStation Portable: The PSP Go.
The existence of the new handheld was leaked over the weekend, so
details of the hardware will come as a surprise to few, but
confirmation of the sliding screen, lack of UMD port and focus on
wireless connectivity was given at Sony's E3 press conference in the
Shrine Auditorium in LA.
The unit has 16GB of internal Flash memory for storage and built-in
WiFi, integrated Bluetooth technology and a memory expansion port.
But perhaps the most interesting aspect of the presentation -
possibly because it was the one detail not yet leaked - was the unit's
price point at the same level as the original PSP launch. Specifically
that makes it USD 249 or EUR 249 (GBP 215), with a release date set for
October 1.
Sony Computer Entertainment president, Kaz Hirai, introduced the
new console alongside a new application called Media Go, software that
purports to make it easier for users to download and transfer music and
videos.
Hirai also announced that Sony was cutting the cost of development
kits for the platform by 80 per cent to encourage more companies to
develop content.
Sony Qore Accidentally Outs PSP Go:
Sony's
new handheld is indeed called PSP Go and has up to 16GB of flash memory
and Bluetooth support for tethering to mobile phones.
That's according to Sony's own Qore gaming show, the latest episode
of which was posted prematurely and then yanked, but not before the
internet pounced on it.
A snippet of video that has since popped up on YouTube includes
mentions of Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Jak & Daxter and Metal
Gear games.
The Sony man talking about it also says that the PSP-3000 will be kept on the market.
Eurogamer's in-house pals at the Digital Foundry blog have also
done some digging and unearthed high-resolution snaps of the PSP Go.
With the slide closed, the unit has a visible Wi-Fi indicator in
the top left next to the screen, as well as a PS button in the bottom
left, and a Bluetooth indicator in the top right, with low-profile
shoulder buttons along the top.
When the screen slides up, it reveals a d-pad and analogue nub,
start/select buttons and the traditional arrangement of four face
buttons.
We've previously been told to expect 8GB and 16GB models, but
presumably we'll find out more on Tuesday at Sony's conference - tune
into the site at 7pm BST / 8pm CET for live coverage.
